Tight security in place at Mt. Vernon basketball game
Following a shooting at a game last month, airport-like security measures were in place at the basketball game at Mount Vernon High School Friday night.
Metal detectors and pat-downs greeted fans at the entrance as a packed crowd turned out to watch Mount Vernon take on their longtime rivals from New Rochelle.
Extra police officers and security guards were on patrol both inside the gym and outside of the school.
The extra precautions were taken after a 17-year-old was shot in the back as he left a Mount Vernon game against White Plains on Jan. 6.
Mount Vernon wound up winning Friday's game, with a final score of 85 over New Rochelle's 74.
