Residents call for reinstatement of Tarrytown DPW commissioner

Some Tarrytown residents are calling for the reinstatement of Department of Public Works Commissioner Scott Weaver following the death of two workers in a manhole accident.

DPW worker Anthony Ruggiero and volunteer firefighter John Kelly were killed after entering a manhole and succumbing to low oxygen levels inside the confined space on Sept. 6, 2010.

After state and labor reports indicated improper procedures were followed or instituted by the DPW, Weaver was suspended last week.

The Hope Hose Volunteer Fire Company is among those who submitted a letter saying the suspension is wrong.

The Village Board of Trustees says that it will not comment on personnel matters.
