Sen. Schumer reminds OC students of tuition tax credit

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D - N.Y.) was at SUNY Orange earlier this week to remind students about a $2,500 tuition tax credit that they may be eligible for without even knowing it.

Schumer says that the credit gives middle-class families with children in college one dollar back on their taxes for every dollar spent on tuition, up to $2,500 a year.

Schumer says that more than half of eligible New Yorkers didn't take advantage of the credit last year, and wants to raise awareness for this year's crop of students.

"$1.1 billion would be in people's pockets if everyone who was entitled to the credit took it," Schumer added.
