Police: Rockland hiker's death appears accidental

Police say they believe the death of 47-year-old hiker Colleen Murphy at Rockland Lake State Park appears to be accidental.

Murphy's body was found last night at the bottom of a 300-foot cliff after an all-day search.

She was last heard from Sunday after telling her friends she was going for a hike with her dog. He parents notified police yesterday that they hadn?t heard from her, leading police to launch the search.

The medical examiner says it will conduct an autopsy tomorrow to determine the exact cause of death.

Officials say Murphy did everything right when going for a hike in these conditions: she wore snowshoes, carried a cell phone with her and notified friends that she was going for the hike. Unfortunately, they say that accidents can happen, even to those who are prepared.
