Hoover WindTunnel canister vacuums recalled

(AP) - Tens of thousands of Hoover WindTunnelCanister Vacuums are being recalled because of concerns about fireand shock hazards.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the power cordbetween the power nozzle and the wand connector can short-circuit.According to the commission, this can occur even if the vacuum hasbeen turned off but left plugged in. In all, about 142,000 vacuumsare being recalled by Hoover Inc., of Glenwillow, Ohio.

There has been one report of a minor injury. Hoover has received69 reports of overheating or electrical malfunctions, including afew reports of fire and smoke damage, CPSC said.

The vacuum, which is silver and black, was sold at departmentstores and retailers nationwide from March 2003 to December 2008for between $250 and $280.
