Long-time WC librarian allegedly stole $160K in fines

A long-time Yonkers librarian was arraigned yesterday on felony grand larceny charges after she allegedly stole more than $160,000 in overdue book fines from the city's public library system.

Margo Reed, 53, worked at the Yonkers Riverfront Library, where prosecutors say she took the money over the course of seven years.

Investigators say that the library kept the money in locked bags, which were supposed to be deposited in the bank. Reed, who they say had the key, allegedly altered library records to cover up her thefts.

Reed faces 15 years in prison if convicted. She has been suspended from her position at the library without pay.
