Ramapo PD reopens investigation into 1981 disappearance

Ramapo police have announced that they are reopening the investigation into the disappearance of a woman who was last seen in the Monsey area in 1981, and who investigators believe may have been killed.

Detectives say that a tip called into police this past September has led them to new information suggesting that 21-year-old Darlene Ellen Conklin may have been killed and her body disposed.

Ramapo police say they received information from detectives in an unknown department that officials in Westchester were showing a photograph in the early to mid 1980s of a deceased girl who fit Conklin's general description.

Police say they are re-interviewing witnesses and have spoken with her live-in boyfriend, but say he is not considered a suspect at this point.

Conklin is described as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing some 110-130 pounds with fair skin, green eyes and brown hair. Detectives say Conklin had tattoos on both hands and often hung out in Haverstaw.

Anyone who believes they have any information regarding the case is asked to contact Ramapo detectives at 845-357-4626.
