Woman shot to death in Williamsbridge
A 31-year-old woman is dead after being shot overnight outside her home in Williamsbridge.
According to police, Dune Janelle Jacobs was found with a gunshot wound to the head lying on the sidewalk at East 213th Street and Carlisle Place. Her family says she was walking to the store, and was just a block away from their home when the incident occurred.
She was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center at around 1 a.m. and pronounced dead.
An abandoned white Nissan Altima was found on Gunther and Givan avenues, which is about a five-minute drive from the scene of the shooting. Investigators say it could be tied to the case. Initial reports also state that three black men were seen jumping out of a car and taking off on foot.
Jacobs' family told News 12 that they moved to the area four years ago, but Jacobs wanted to leave because of the violence in the neighborhood.
So far, police have made no arrests as they continue to search for the suspects.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
