Bronx hobby store damaged in fire

A Bronx hobby shop owner surveyed the damage Wednesday after a fire destroyed tens of thousands of dollars in inventory.
The fire broke out Tuesday evening at Bruckner Hobbies on East Tremont Avenue in Throgs Neck. The fire was contained to the back of the store, an area where pricier merchandise is stored.
The store, which is known for its radio control cars, boats, planes and craft supplies, sustained a lot of water damage. Some of the remote control cars sold at the shop have been raced around the world by miniature model enthusiasts.
Owner Tom Baffer estimates a loss of at least $50,000 worth of inventory, which he hopes will be covered by insurance. Baffer has owned the shop for 40 years.
He says he plans to open his doors as soon as possible, which could be as early as in two weeks.
Meanwhile, loyal customers have been stopping by to lend their support in any way they can.
