Shoe store doubles as UPS access point

Lipkind's Shoes has been a staple along Boston Road for 83 years, but with box stores and online shopping, the flow of customers has declined.
Three months ago, it was suggested to owner Alex Douglas to make the store a UPS access point.
Packages are now delivered to his store rather than porches and hallways.
"When they make a delivery, if there's nobody there, they just leave the packages outside or with a neighbor, but they had a lot of problems," said Douglas. "So they approached us figuring that this would make a difference."
Many say having the access point in a neighborhood where some don't drive and work odd hours is a big help.
Douglas receives a small fee from UPS, but says the bigger reward is just getting people through the doors.
The store is open seven days a week with late hours.
