Several Soundview businesses set to close

Community Board 9 is hoping to save a number of businesses in Soundview that are slated for closure.

Joe Romero's barber shop is one of the businesses set to close because his lease is up and not being renewed.

Romero says he has seen his longtime neighbors phased out of the shopping center in the past few years as well.

Property management company Vornado told Romero he has to be out in a few months because it is planning on renovating the building.

A Pathmark and a Rite Aid in Bruckner Plaza are also set to close their doors.

Community Board 9 is planning to talk with retailers and landlords in the hopes of reaching agreements that will make both sides happy and profitable.

News 12 has yet to hear back from Vornado for comment on the rental situation.
