A block on White Plains Road is experiencing a rebirth after a fire left the area vacant for years.
Stores including Lepoint Value Thrift Shop are set to open on the block on East 235th Street where a fire destroyed several stores in 2009.
An Avon, a children's specialized shop and a martial arts center are also set to open.
Father Richard Gorman, chairman of Community Board 12, says the board is trying to establish a merchants association and is working with the NYPD to increase patrols in the area.
