Construction sparks crime concerns in Pelham Bay
Store owners along Buhre Avenue in Pelham Bay are worried that construction in the area may lead to an increase in crime.
A liquor store was recently robbed, and the suspect made off with $1,000 and a bottle of vodka. The owner says police were just seconds away from catching the suspect but couldn't pull over because of construction at the Buhre Avenue train station.
Store owners say the area has too many blind spots and is not well lit.
The MTA says the project will be completed next summer instead of February as originally planned. However, lighting will be installed at the location.
