RYE - Rye Playland is scheduled to reopen for the season on time this year, despite millions of dollars of damage from Hurricane Sandy.

However, when the amusement park opens on May 11, local officials say it will not be completely back to normal.

Though the rides were largely spared by Sandy, the park suffered approximately $20 million in damage last fall to its boardwalk and Ice Casino.

According to officials, work on the boardwalk could take until the end of May and the Ice Casino probably won’t reopen until next year.

County officials also need to get Playland back in shape before they turn over management to the not-for-profit group Sustainable Playland sometime in 2014.
