Officials discovered Monday several city food carts that were operating with illegal permits, which are not issued by the city?s Health Department.
Officials say illegal six-month permits on the black market go for up to $2,000. If operated illegally, items from food carts could give customers food poisoning from unhygienic procedures.
If permits are legally issued through the city?s Health Department, there is a better chance the food cart will work under sanitary conditions.
Customers are advised to look for legal city permits on food carts, and for vendors who do not wear gloves or hats.
