Yonkers hires Michael Yazurlo as interim school superintendent
YONKERS - Kids in Yonkers public schools have a new superintendent.
At a special meeting last night, the Yonkers Board of Education voted 6 to 2 to hire Michael Yazurlo as the city's interim superintendent.
The trustees accepted Bernard Pierorazio's resignation after he announced he would retire after an audit found a $55 million budget shortfall.

Yazurlo is a former principal of Roosevelt and the former superintendent of Tuckahoe. "When this opportunity came about, it's really the culminating act of my career and it's where I can leave my mark," says Yazurlo.
"Michael Yazurlo brings a lot of leadership qualities and the financial expertise we feel will help us move forward in the direction we can be proud of," says Yonkers School Board President Nader Sayegh.
Sources tell News 12 that Pierorazio will be paid until the end of the school year but not for the three remaining years of his contract.
