TUXEDO - A group of friends say they had a close call Monday morning when they nearly collided with an 80-year-old Rockland County man who was driving the wrong way on the New York State Thruway.

Berge Parigian, 21, says cellphone video shows his car in mid-air as he drove off into a rocky ditch alongside the New York State Thruway. He made the maneuver trying to avoid colliding head on with wrong-way driver Joseph Dorcerly.

"I thought he was trying to commit suicide and take us out with him," says Parigian.

Authorities were able to eventually stop Dorcerly, who had driven 8 miles in the wrong direction.

Parigian, who was with two friends in the car, say they were bumped and bruised, but are OK.

No charges have been filed against Dorcerly, but state police have submitted for his license to be revoked.
