White Plains celebrates Independence Day early with annual party

Officials say they went ahead with the fireworks show because there was no makeup date. (7/2/14)

WHITE PLAINS - Wet weather wasn’t enough to cancel the Fourth of July celebration at White Plains High School Wednesday night.

A much smaller crowd than year’s past showed up to be dazzled by the fireworks display. They were met by a thunderstorm, lightning and a downpour.

The live music, rides for kids and other activities for the annual party had to be canceled.
