YONKERS - Following months of speculation, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino has created a statewide committee to run for governor.

Astorino has not yet announced that he's running for governor, but the exploratory committee means he's almost certainly going to. The committee will also help with fundraising.

Since winning the re-election for county executive, the Republican has gone on an introductory tour of upstate New York, meeting with big donors and GOP heavyweights.

Astorino needs the campaign cash to start flowing in. He's got $1 million compared to Governor Andrew Cuomo's $33 million. News 12 GOP Analyst Tony Sayegh says Astorino will only need about half of Cuomo's war chest to be competitive.

A formal announcement could come within the next two weeks.
