Teacher accused of raping student (3/15/13)

WALKILL - A substitute teacher at a Newburgh Catholic school is facing rape charges after cops learned of an alleged relationship she had with a teenage student.

Police say Lisa Franklin, 44, of Wallkill, began a sexual relationship with a student at Sacred Heart School when the boy was just 12 years old. Investigators believe Franklin befriended the victim's family and became his personal tutor even after she stopped working for the school in 2012.

Back in February, the boy's parents told police they found inappropriate text messages on his phone and became concerned.

Franklin has been charged with second-degree rape and sexual conduct against a child, and additional charges are expected.

She was released from Orange County Jail after posting $10,000 bail.
