WASHINGTONVILLE - A police officer in Orange County has been charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in the back.

Police say a verbal argument between Walkill Police Officer Danielle Garcia and her boyfriend turned physical at her home in Washingtonville.

The Walkill Town Board has suspended Garcia without pay.

In 2012, she sued the town and Police Chief Robert Herman, alleging he sexually harassed her. That case is moving toward a jury trial, according to federal court records.

Garcia was arraigned and sent to Orange County Jail on a $20,000 bond, but has been released. She's due in court on March 12.

Her boyfriend was brought to Westchester Medical Center and has already been released.
