WALKILL - The sister of a Walkill woman who was fatally shot by her husband before he killed himself spoke exclusively with News 12 about her sister and brother-in-law.

Officials say D'Anne Leroy, 46, was shot and killed last week by her husband, 49-year-old Michael Leroy, inside their home on Anthony Street in Walkill. He then turned the gun on himself. Reports have said that Leroy was a victim of domestic abuse, but her sister, Gina Imbimbo, says that's not true.

Imbimbo says her brother-in-law never laid a hand on her sister and if he had, she would have left her husband a long time ago. According to Imbimbo, her brother-in-law had a drug problem and had been addicted to crack for at least the past two years, which made him very paranoid. A week before the murder-suicide, Imbimbo says Leroy moved into her house and any attempts to help Michael Leroy were unsuccessful.

For the past two years, Imbimbo says her sister was working two jobs because her husband was unemployed. They eventually became so consumed by debt, their house went into foreclosure.

Leroy, who was due to become a grandmother for the first time in June, was laid to rest Saturday.
