Wake held for fallen firefighter Kevin Bristol

PEEKSKILL - Family and friends said goodbye today to a veteran Peekskill firefighter who died on the job this week.

Kevin Bristol, 48, fell ill Monday while fighting a kitchen fire on Howard Street in Peekskill. He later died of an apparent heart attack at Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

On Tuesday, flags flew at half-staff and purple and black bunting hanged from the walls in remembrance of the 26-year veteran, whose father was also a longtime firefighter at Peekskill.

A wake service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Nardone Funeral Home in Peekskill. A funeral is set for Thursday morning at the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill.

Bristol leaves behind a wife, three grown kids and two grandchildren.
