SLEEPY HOLLOW - Some Sleepy Hollow residents believe their village board is discriminating against a military veteran.

Greg Lobato, who declined to comment for this story, is a decorated Iraq War veteran and a former Marine captain. He passed the civil service exam and all other necessary criteria, but four village trustees voted in July against allowing him to join Sleepy Hollow's police force.

On Tuesday, the board failed to reintroduce the motion, ultimately denying Mr. Lobato the job again.

Karin Wompa, a board trustee, wasn't available to speak on camera but she told News 12 it was a hiring decision and that the board doesn't disclose personnel information.

Wompa added that the board respects and supports veterans and she denied claims that the vote was a political shot at Lobato's sister, trustee Jennifer Lobato-Church, who recused herself from the vote.

Some residents believe the case is far from over and could end up in court.
