YONKERS - More than 100 parents and football players from Tuckahoe High School packed the school library Monday at a board meeting, angry that their team may not be on the field much longer.
Parents and students say the football team has been neglected, and they are in desperation mode to keep the program from falling apart with the season just around the corner.
Players say they have had to borrow mouthpieces and footballs. They also say they only have two coaches at the moment, which is not enough to run the team.
The school board says they don't have the budget to buy the necessary equipment, but some aren't buying the explanation. Some parents say politics is at work by a contingent of people in town.
Players say they are rising above the adversity by continuing to work out every day and staying focused. There is also an effort to get volunteer coaches to help the team.
