RYE BROOK - A tractor-trailer travelling illegally on the Hutchinson River Parkway slammed into an overpass overnight.

Police say the truck hit the King Street overpass in Rye Brook on the northbound side of the parkway at around 1:15 a.m. today.

The top of the trailer was sheared off and its contents of canned vegetables spilled all over the road. Officials say there was also a leak that dumped about 50 gallons of fuel from the refrigeration unit into storm drains.

The truck driver says he was on the road due to faulty GPS instructions. Police say numerous charges are expected to be filed.

Both lanes of the northbound Hutch were closed overnight, but all lanes have since been reopened.
