NEW ROCHELLE - Residents at the Section 8 housing unit at 51 Winthrop Ave. in New Rochelle say they don't feel safe living there after a man was fatally stabbed at the apartment building.

"Trust me when I tell you it's dangerous in here," says tenant Shawna Spady. "I am scared, I can't sleep. I think somebody is going to walk in."

Keita Speed, 45, was stabbed repeatedly in the stairwell at the apartment Friday night, his murder now leaving tenants at the building scared. One woman says she has her 3-month-old son is staying with his grandmother because she doesn't feel comfortable having him living at the building with her.

Police say Speed, who didn't live at the building but was well-known by residents, was stabbed repeatedly near his left shoulder and neck. Some residents say they're planning on visiting the New Rochelle Housing Authority Monday to ask for better security.
