YONKERS - Thousands of students attended a program at the Lincoln Park Jewish Center in Yonkers as part of Holocaust Remembrance Week.
The program featured an exhibit of photographs and a talk with Dr. Lola Margulies, who was 11 years old when German troops invaded her hometown in Poland. Margulies says only 193 Jews in her town, out of 18,500, survived the Holocaust.
Margulies says she and her mother were saved by a farmer, who hid them in an underground bunker with nine other people for nine months. Her father was captured during a violent roundup and killed.
Students who attended the program described it as meaningful and touching.
