NEW ROCHELLE - Some local "superheroes" were honored last night at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle.

St. Christopher's, an organization dedicated to helping children with special needs and their families, celebrated its annual "Superhero Gala" last night. The event recognized more than 200 people who help run the organization's residential program with more than 170 children.

The development director of St Christopher's highlighted the importance of recognizing the needs of each child. "What we do at St. Christopher's is truly to tell their story, not only helping them and allowing them to become successful young adults, but really to let them know that people care," says Kurt Kannemeyer, of St. Christopher's Inc.

News 12's Tara Rosenblum was the emcee for last night's event.

St. Christopher's has facilities in Valhalla, Dobbs Ferry and New Windsor.
