YONKERS - The SPCA says three of the 25 cats found dead in a vacant Yonkers lot died of blunt force trauma to the head.

DPW crews found the cats' remains stuffed in bags and hanging from a tree while cleaning up the vacant lot on Overlook Terrace yesterday. Investigators found a baseball bat, two shovels and a metal pipe at the scene, although it's unclear if they were used in the killings.

Based on necropsies, some of the cats had been dead for about a year and at least two of them were killed on Monday. At least one kitten was among the dead animals.

A group from Maryland called Alley Cat Allies is offering a $750 reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever is responsible for the killings.
