Some Mount Vernon tenants finally have heat restored after fighting for 3 weeks

Tenants at 630 E. Lincoln Avenue in Mount Vernon say they have been living without heat for about three weeks since a boiler shut down. (1/31/14)

MOUNT VERNON - A three-week struggle to have heat restored at an apartment building in Mount Vernon has come to an end for most tenants.

Heat for most of those living at 630 East Lincoln Ave. is back on, although some still remain in the frigid temperatures without warmth.

The problem began when a boiler at the building broke down weeks ago. Some pipes froze and flooded some apartments. Since then, the building's management, Mount Vernon LLC, has been in and out of court answering to a judge as to why it was taking so long for heat to be restored.

The judge handling the matter said anyone still without heat must be offered a hotel room.

An attorney for the building says the remaining tenants should have heat soon.
