VALLEY COTTAGE - Slick and icy conditions are being blamed for a rollover accident involving an ambulette in Rockland.

The accident happened just after 9:00 a.m. today at the intersection of Route 303 and Casper Hill Road in Valley Cottage.

The ambulette was carrying one passenger who was being taken to an adult day care center.

Rockland Paramedic Robert Sobel was one of the first emergency responders on the scene. Sobel says he climbed in the back of the ambulette, made sure both men were covered with an emergency blanket and told them they would be hearing some loud noises.

Sobel then grabbed an ax and cut out the front windshield of the vehicle so the victims could be rescued.

The 35-year-old male driver and his 75-year-old male passenger were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Nyack Hospital.

Traffic on Route 303 was backed up for at least a mile behind the accident. Once the van was uprighted, Route 303 was reopened.
