CARMEL - The rape case against the former personal trainer of Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy is now in the hands of the jury.

Alexandru Hossu is accused of raping the 13-year-old daughter of his then-girlfriend in 2010. The case became public last year after a series of events led to the girl making her accusation to police.

Hossu himself never took the stand during the trial, so legal experts say the case could come down to whether the jury believes the testimony of his accuser. The 16-year-old gave emotional testimony, but there were some inconsistencies in her story about the date of the alleged rape and the actions she took afterward. The girl was given a medical exam, but it was inconclusive as to whether a rape occurred.

Hossu's lawyers told the jury the rape never happened and the girl made up the story to punish Hossu for leaving her mother.

If convicted, Hossu faces 25 years in prison.
