TARRYTOWN - Hundreds supported the re-election of Gov. Andrew Cuomo at a fundraiser Thursday night in Westchester, but outside, there was a less-welcoming crowd.

Dozens of environmental activists showed up to crash the fundraiser and protest against hydrofracking, the controversial method of drilling for natural gas by pumping chemicals underground.

The activists say they have a simple message: ban hydrofracking now. Cuomo has yet to make a decision on whether to allow fracking in the state.

Cuomo entered and left the fundraiser through a side door, avoiding cameras and the protest. An aide to Gov. Cuomo says more than 300 Westchester residents turned out for the fundraiser to applaud the passage of an on-time state budget and property tax relief.

Another notable detail about about this fundraiser for Cuomo, a Democrat, is that Republican power broker and former state Sen. Nick Spano is the one who organized it. Speaking to an Albany newspaper, Spano says he is supporting Cuomo because he says the governor has done an outstanding job ending the gridlock at the state capital.

Tickets to the governor's fundraiser went from $1,000 to $25,000 per person. Cuomo currently has $33 million in his campaign war chest.
