SOMERS - First-graders in Somers participated in a special Red Cross event today to help other children in need.

Students at Primrose Elementary School prepared comfort kits that the Red Cross will use to hand out to needy children.

The annual event is the brainchild of Somer's mom Lynn Crispenelli. It is designed to both help distressed children throughout the region and honor her late daughter Stephanie Crispenelli.

Stephanie died in 2010 from an earthquake in Haiti.

She was in the country on an humanitarian mission.

Lynn says she hopes Stephanie's life work will inspire the students to give back in any way they can.
