GREENBURGH - State police have confirmed that speed played a role in an early morning accident that claimed the lives of two people Thursday.

Authorities say the crash happened on the southbound Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh by Jackson Avenue just after midnight. They say a car driven by James Campion, 26, of White Plains, lost control and struck a tree.

Officials say Campion was ejected from his car and pronounced dead on the scene.

His passenger, 21-year-old Pedro Mattos, of Mount Vernon, later died at Westchester Medical Center.
