NEW ROCHELLE - Police have increased patrols at a New Rochelle school after a letter containing disturbing images and a threat was sent to a family with the school's return address.

According to investigators, someone mailed sexually explicit photos of children to a family whose two children attend school in New Rochelle. One of the photos also had a threat written on it, hinting someone's children might be abducted.

New Rochelle Police Capt. Joseph Schaller says the family received the photos last Tuesday in a plain white envelope addressed to "Resident." The hand-written return address on the envelope was 131 Weyman Ave., the mailing address of Jefferson Elementary School. Schaller described the family as "very upset" over the letter.

The New Rochelle School District posted a safety alert on its website, saying the envelope was not mailed from the school, despite attempts to make it look like an official mailing. Police are advising anyone else who receives a suspicious letter with the return address of any school to call them immediately.
