PUTNAM VALLEY - Three people are facing charges after police say they were selling heroin out of a house in Putnam Valley.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Department began the investigation last month after receiving a tip that heroin was being sold from a house in Putnam Valley. During the investigation, undercover officers made purchases from the dealer.

On Jan. 9, officers served a search warrant on the house and seized paraphernalia, heroin and other drugs. Kevin Maffettone, 26, who lives in the house, was arrested. Also arrested were 22-year-old Michael Whalen and 20-year-old Samantha Dodge.

When police searched their car, they say they found 50 bags of heroin and hypodermic needles.

Maffettone and Whalen remain in custody at the Putnam County jail. Dodge was released on her own recognizance.

Police say the arrests come as heroin overdose cases are on the rise in the Hudson Valley.
