Police: 2 bodies found after fire at White Plains YMCA; possible murder-suicide

Police are investigating a fire, a possible homicide and an alleged suicide that occurred this morning at the YMCA in White Plains. Police say that

WHITE PLAINS - Police say two bodies were discovered this morning after a fire at the White Plains YMCA, and they are investigating the incident as a possible murder-suicide.

Police say that 68-year-old Michael Solomon, who had been a night guard at the YMCA for 20 years on Mamaroneck Avenue, was found with multiple stab wounds early Saturday morning.

The suspect  in the stabbing allegedly surprised Solomon while he was on duty at around 3:30 a.m. After allegedly killing Solomon, investigators say it apepars the suspect went up to his third-floor apartment and lit himself on fire. He was found dead.

Police say the two men had been fighting for years.

Seven firefighters who responded to the scene were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. All of the other residents in the building were safely evacuated and are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.

Police have not released the name of the suspect, but they say he had lived at the YMCA for years.
