Opening arguments made in Lucius Crawford's murder trial

MOUNT VERNON - Opening arguments were made today in the murder trial of Lucius Crawford, who is accused of murdering two women in Westchester.

Prosecutors say Crawford fatally stabbed Tonya Simmons at his Mount Vernon apartment in December of 2012. He's also been accused of murdering Yonkers woman Leoranda Shealy in 1993.

Prosecutors have also accused Crawford of murdering a third woman in the Bronx, but he will be tried in that case separately.

Investigators say they have DNA evidence against Crawford and that he confessed to the murders, but his attorney says Crawford has low intelligence.
