WASHINGTONVILLE - An Orange County school canceled all after-school activities Tuesday after it received a threatening phone call, police say.

Administrators say the call came in around 1:45 p.m., claiming there were explosives inside Washingtonville High School.

Officials enacted emergency procedures at both the middle and high schools. Students evacuated to buses, and police swept the facilities.

News 12 is told that investigators found nothing suspicious, but activities were canceled at both schools out of an abundance of caution.

Residents who spoke with News 12 supported the precautions.

"The way things are going in the world, you can't take those chances," says Joy Decker, of Washingtonville. "I just thank God my kids are all grown up now because as a parent you constantly are in fear."

The school is expected to open at the usual time Wednesday.
