NEW ROCHELLE - Five young people are in the hospital this morning after a car crash in New Rochelle on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses tell News 12 a car with three young men was pulling out of Wood Lane when it was hit by a BMW.

Police will not confirm exactly who was at fault but neighbors say eyewitnesses saw the driver of the BMW being reckless as he sped down Lincoln Avenue just before the accident. "The BMW was flying up the road, going 100 miles and people were pulling over to the side afraid," says Drew Lynch of New Rochelle.

Kareem Robinson, the father of one of these three young men says they were all childhood friends, grew up in New Rochelle, and had just come home from college. He says they were leaving to celebrate a brother's graduation from high school.

His son, Jyrel, 21, is in critical condition at the hospital with traumatic brain injury. The others, all in their 20s, are also in the hospital in serious condition

According to family members, the driver of the BMW had some broken bones but is out of the hospital. The passenger in that car suffered serious injuries and needs multiple surgeries.

Police say that a preliminary investigation shows no indication of drugs and alcohol but that further tests must be done.
