New developments in Playland's future
RYE - There are new developments in the fight over the future of Rye Playland.
A contract could be signed as early as next month between Westchester and the non-profit group Sustainable Playland, which is tapped to run the park. A contract could mean that work could begin at Playland this coming summer.
However, some county lawmakers are still talking to other groups interested in transforming the historic destination.
One of the groups interested in the site is Legoland Development. The company, which is opening a smaller attraction at Ridge Hill in Yonkers, now says it would be willing to invest as much as $200 million in Playland in a 50-year redevelopment plan that would add a "Lego theme" to the park.
Legoland Development's offer is about $166 million more than Sustainable Playland's proposed investment.
