YONKERS - Teachers in Yonkers officially have a new contract.

The City Council approved a seven-year plan for teachers that is retroactive to 2014.

The contract gives teachers an average raise of 2 percent a year. Teachers are still unsure of when their raises will actually come through.

“We are happy with what the City Council did, what they're doing but at the same point there doesn't seem to be the rush for reciprocal part of the contract which has some monetary pieces to it," said Yonkers teachers union president Pat Puelo.

The head of the Yonkers teacher union says it could take several weeks for teachers to see raises.
