Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Carl Bell 'blindsided' by firing
MOUNT VERNON - Former Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Carl Bell says he was blindsided when Mayor Ernie Davis fired him Tuesday night.
Bell was brought in by the previous mayor and admits that he and Davis never were on the same page. Davis insists that the decision had to do with Mount Vernon's growing reputation of violence.
Police statistics show that while crime is down 9 percent in the last year, there has been a growing number of homicides.

Some suspect Davis's decision to fire Bell has something to do with the fact that Bell is a former federal agent. Davis is currently at the center of a federal investigation into his finances. He denies that the probe had any bearing on his decision.
Bell continues to stand by his work. He was given until the end of the week to clean out his office, but says that today is his final day.
