MOUNT VERNON - Days after the last snowstorm, some Mount Vernon residents say the Department of Public Works has barely made a dent in removing snow from the side streets.

One resident, Brian Jenkins, says he had to replace two flat tires that he got while trying to get around a steep snow bank.

"I think Mount Vernon is the worst city in Westchester County, as far as snow removal," said Jenkins.

DPW Commissioner Curtis Woods says Mount Vernon is a particularly difficult area to clear because many residents live down narrow alleys.

"People clearing their cars are putting the snow back into the streets," said Woods. "So it's similar to a lot of other municipalities, where getting the roads to the blacktop has been difficult, especially when the temperatures are dropping."

The DPW urges residents who have problems with their streets to contact them.
