Mount Pleasant Police Chief Brian Fanelli accused of possessing child pornography

WHITE PLAINS - Mount Pleasant Police Chief Brian Fanelli has been arrested on charges of possession of child pornography, according to a town official.

In a statement, Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Joan Maybury says that Fanelli, 55, was arrested by U.S. Homeland Security Investigation Unit agents after a search warrant was executed at his Mahopac home.

Fanelli took office on Jan. 1 of this year. He has been with the department for 20 years.

The town says it is fully cooperating with the U.S. Attorney's Office and that Chief Fanelli has been suspended.

The Mount Pleasant town supervisor tells News 12 that there are two sitting lieutenants in the police department. One will be chosen to become an active lieutenant and take over the chief's responsibilities.
