TUCKAHOE - More than 100 runners braved the dreary weather to run in the first ever "5K for Rockaway."

Participants ran 3.1 miles through the streets of Crestwood to raise money for Hurricane Sandy victims in the Rockaways.

Yonkers resident Casey O'Connor organized the event about two weeks ago. She says she wanted to raise money for Sandy, but also show her appreciation to the Rockaways. For the last 11 years, the Queens community has hosted "Lunge in the Ocean," a benefit for her neighbor, Annie McMahon, who is battling cystic fibrosis.

Organizers hope to raise $15,000 for Sandy relief.
