SOMERS - A 67-year-old Somers man who had been missing for almost a week was found dead Thursday in the woods near his house.

Garry McKeon, who suffered from Parkinson's disease and dementia, was last seen six days ago when he walked out of his house. His body was discovered by a tree trimmer in the woods Thursday afternoon, one block from his house.

"The initial shock of it was crippling because we know that we put in so much effort to certainly find him," says McKeon's son Eamon. The same day McKeon's body was found, his fourth grandchild was born.

McKeon's family says they're grateful to the volunteers, neighbors, police and fire officials who helped them search for him.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. State police say foul play is not suspected.
