Downes says the resignation was his decision. (3/14/14)

MAHOPAC - Mahopac High School coach Kevin Downes announced Friday that he will resign from the school.

Parents and students told News 12 that they were saddened by the news that the basketball coach is leaving, and many of them questioned why.

Many said they felt like Downes was being forced out due to the recent controversy at the school regarding the racist tweets from eight Mahopac students that made their way online after a fight during a semi-final basketball game last week.
